Annual Profections

An ancient time-lord technique loved by traditional astrologers: every birthday the chart "profects" one sign forward, lighting up a new house and handing the year to a single ruling planet — the Lord of the Year. It tells you what each year of your life is really about.

How to use the Annual Profections

Annual profections are a Hellenistic "time-lord" technique. Each year of life advances the Ascendant one whole sign forward, activating a new house and handing the twelve months to a single ruling planet — the Lord of the Year.

Getting started

  1. Enter your birth date, time and place — the Ascendant is the starting point, so an accurate time matters.
  2. Your profection age (whole years lived) sets everything: house = (age mod 12) + 1, counting from the 1st house at birth.
  3. The traditional ruler of the profected sign becomes your Lord of the Year.

Reading your result

The activated house tells you the life area in focus this year. The Lord of the Year is the planet to watch — wherever it sits natally (its sign and house) is where the year's story plays out, and transits to it mark the peaks.

Astrologer's tip Your 1st, 10th and 7th house profection years (ages 0/12/24…, 9/21/33…, 6/18/30…) are classic turning-point years.
